FINAL STUDY GUIDE
- I. TRANSLATION
Two passages, 9-13 lines each for a total of 22 lines, taken from Books 4-15
- No dictionary or grammar card allowed, obscure vocabulary will be provided.
- II. PARSING
Five words underlined in Translation section for which you
will be asked to identify the morphology (form) and syntax (function)
- III. SCANSION
Scan one line of dactylic hexameter taken from a translation passage. Be able to mark caesura, etc.
- IIII. ESSAY
You will be asked to discuss one of the Translation passages.
Be able to identify it, to discuss its context (narrator, position, relation to the poem as a whole, etc.) and citing examples drawn from your translation and reading of the Metamorphoses ro discuss Ovid's techinique as a poet and storyteller.
